In a recent article, I shared a little about the life of the Great Master of Yoga, Paramahansa Yogananda.
If you didn’t catch that, I suggest you read that here first.
Yogananda’s teachings were simple, yet profound, and were of immense practical value to all humans, not just the few ‘yogis’ of his time that were seeking the truth of inner illumination.
After all, who doesn’t want better physical and mental health, more wisdom, inner strength, courage and peace?
In this article, I’ll share the basic method of charging the body that he passed down, which is important to understand if you wish to take care of the vessel you inhabit, and also embody your highest potential.
Most of know how just hard life can be when we are not feeling well! The body is the focusing lens of the soul for this Earthly journey.
Energising or charging the body with prana
Most of us remain blissfully unaware of the biomechanics of the body, and the flow of prana from deep within our core to the surface.
To regain some awareness, try the following exercise.
Simple exercise in “energy awareness”
Lift up your (right or left) arm or leg… then drop it.
What lifted your arm or leg? Was it will power (mental focus) alone?
No! You also need energy to flow to that part of the body.
The arm/leg can only be lifted when sufficient energy can flow into that body part to lift its weight.
Now, lift the same arm/leg up, and hold it there.
What is holding it up?
BOTH Will power and energy.
If you do not use will power, it will drop.
If the energy is somehow “cut off” (say you have an injury), the arm/leg will drop again.
Will power is the switch that controls the flow of energy.
Remember this: The greater the concentration of will, the greater the flow of energy.

Tension/vibration vs. Relaxation
A natural tension, or vibration, results when energy (called “prana”) is sent by the will to any body part. (Tension here doesn’t mean the kind of tension you experience when stressed.)
If you don’t send prana there, you cannot move that part of the body.
Whenever you get out of bed in the morning, you have to literally ‘will yourself’ up…
Have you ever tried to drag a teenager out of bed if they don’t want to get up? Maybe you remember being one? :)
Degrees of tension to master: Low, medium and high
Most of us think that to re-charge, we must ‘switch off’ and relax the body-mind system. And that’s true.
But why?
It is because we allow the natural connection to our Inner Being to flow, recharging us without even knowing it! We are ‘plugged in’ with no resistance.
Mental resistance (negative thoughts) is one of the greatest ways we hinder our natural flow of energy.
We can broadly say there are three degrees of vibration/tension, depending on the amount of energy directed at will. It’s vital to understand these three inner states because they can be used to heal the body rapidly when it is sick, weak or injured.
By all means, go to the doctor but without the primordial intelligence within, we would never heal. The old saying goes, “the doctor dresses the wound, and God heals it.”
We can refer broadly to the following three states of inner vibration or tension:
LOW indicates a small amount of energy vibrating
MEDIUM requires more will and energy
HIGH means as much energy as can be summoned
To understand this, make a closed fist, and squeeze very gently. That is LOW tension.
Next increase the tension in the fist by squeezing harder (but not fully). This is MEDIUM tension.
Next increase the tension in the fist to maximum by squeezing the hardest you can. This is HIGH tension.
Then go from HIGH, back to MEDIUM, the to LOW… and then uncurl the fist.
The withdrawal of energy from the muscles (in the hand) can simply be called relaxation, which can also be considered to have three states — from partial to complete relaxation.
In order to “tense”, one must first understand how to relax fully. And vice versa.
Fidgeting is not relaxation. Having a restless mind – which is typical for many people today - indicates that complete relaxation is not possible because mind and body are ONE.
Even with today’s increase in awareness, far too many human beings have lost awareness of their true nature.
If you practice daily, you will soon ‘remember’.
Start your day with energy: how to reconnect and recharge
When you first awaken, try this.
Remain on your back, with the eyes closed. Try to stay in that still, quiet place, where the mind is not chattering. Breathe deeply and consciously a few times.
You may wish to say some sort of meaningful prayer to help you consciously connect to your Inner Source, such as:
“I am one with Cosmic Intelligence. This primordial intelligence now invigorates all the cells of my body now.”
Eventually, you won’t need the ‘prayer’.
Open, spacious awareness (no thought) is where you will end up if you let your own current of awareness take you there.
Video instruction
I’ve decided to give everyone the video of the basic technique, filmed in Cyprus, near the beautiful Mediterranean sea. This simple flow can also be used to ‘throw off’ restlessness and calm the body-mind system down.
Vital secrets of energising the body with prana
In the rest of this article, I explain the exact method to vibrate the body to energise it… and also heal it.
You will gain some understanding from simply watching the video but the inner teachings and explanations are vital as you will have much more conscious awareness of the practice.
